"I am the current treasurer of the UCLA Women's Rugby team and I have been playing with them since my freshman year. I am a member of the Mixed Student Union which is a club where students who come from multiple racial backgrounds (I'm Black and Mexican Indigenous) can get together and talk about our experiences. I am a member of BlaQue which is a group specifically for black people who identify within the LGBTQ+ community. And I am member of Act 4 Equality which is a club on campus that is partnered with the Los Angeles LGBT Center that goes out into the community to talk to registered voters to try to reduce prejudice against marginalized communities. I work for the Academic Advancement Program which is a resource for students who come from low income communities to get supplemental help in their classes[...]there are many students and faculty who have made my experience here fantastic. I have made many amazing, lifelong friends here and I'm very thankful for that. "

"The college environment provides a positive feeling that is quite different from one I would have received in the high school setting. In terms [of] academics, study material streams faster, more consistently, and fresh -- I actually am enjoying learning the new content while others I know are seeing it as distasteful (the only distaste I have is when I reach writer's block on an essay that I really need to get done). I also find it amazing how my professors can write formulas and ideas on the large whiteboard in a matter of seconds. Furthermore, having a major control of my academic schedule enables me to set priorities (homework, cooking, rest...); however, the only downside to this freedom is that others also have this power, making it a melee between students for the most "comforting" schedule."
